How do you pronounce the term "Bon", referring to the indigenous religious tradition of the Tibetan region?

I heard some egghead try to impress me by saying that it's properly pronounced something like "pen" and it may well be true, but I just don't know and can't trust that source. Please help. You will be rewarded with Yahoo points, a long life, and a hundred sons as strong as bulls and stallions.
