I want to put blue in my hair!!!!?

i have dirty blonde hair and its kinda short, like an inch past my shoulders and its really thin. iv been wanting to put blue in it foreverrrrr. should i just dye the underneath layer of my hair blue? orr should i do thin highlights?? if i do highlights i dont want them to start on the part of my hair because the second highlights grow out they can look weird. i hope i explained that ok. can someone pleaseeeeee help me iv been asking people this for probably a half a year and i still dont know =/ i was also thinking of cutting my hair shorter, but thats another problem lol if anyone pleaseeee could show be a picture of someone w. dirty blonde hair and blue, that would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!!!!! every picture i find is all blue hair or bleachh blonde and blue. thank youuuuuuu =]
