I can see your dilemma. Admirable thrift and the public good on the one hand OR a life partner's happiness and convenience on the other. I think on this occasion you have to put aside any thought of pecuniary advantage or good citizenship, and instead think of the little lady. Wouldn't it save her great time and effort if she could bring you a take-away or a 12-pack by car rather than have to carry it by hand, get two buses and then arrive home with your food cold and your drink warm? Wouldn't she feel less guilty about your car getting dirty if she had one that got dirty too? After all, that's how she feels when she washes (and waxes) yours. Wouldn't it make her joy complete to let you relax on the sofa while she goes to pick up your friends and bring them to your house to watch the footie (and then take them all back to their own homes again after she's been allowed to be the perfect hostess and plied you all with food and drink)? I think you must stop being selfish, think of her happiness.and buy her that car.
